When we moved to West Point, NY in 1997 for me to teach at USMA, our son Daniel wanted to attend the public high school there. He would be a sophomore, after home schooling his 9th grade year.
When we went to the local public high school we met with the guidance counselor. This was NY state in 1997, and the counselor apparently had never heard of homeschooling. As we talked he looked us in the eye and asked, “Why should I not put him back in 9th grade?”
Brenda had been inspired by G^d to put into her purse Daniel’s Standardized test scores. When the counselor made his threat, Brenda very calmly reached into her purse and pulled out his scores, which she placed in front of him.
“He’ll do fine in 10th grade.” Said the guidance counselor upon seeing his scores.
And he did.
