The Adventure of Christianity?

"If we could but show the world that being committed to Christ is no tame, humdrum, sheltered monotony, but the most exciting, thrilling adventure the human spirit can ever know, those who have been standing outside the church and looking askance at Christ will come crowding in to pay allegiance; and we might well expect the greatest revival since Pentecost."
                                                                                                          Dr. James Stewart of Scotland

Exciting, thrilling adventure??  Of what is he speaking?  Of what is he thinking; certainly not the staid, solemn, Sunday-morning Christianity which seems more endured than enjoyed.  Where's the adventure?  We Christians are reluctant to take so much as the smallest risk.

Perhaps Dr. Stewart is wrong.  Clearly Jesus and the disciples lived quiet, low-risk, hum-drum lives.  They went to church every Sunday when it was convenient, they did their best to "fit-in", they didn't make waves at work, or in their neighborhoods. ;)

Well, that was a different time and circumstance. They didn't have mortgages and dance lessons, they didn't have 401ks and grass to fertilize, de-thatch, and mow.

So, I guess I have decided to trade authentic Christianity for a good looking yard (garden).

How about you?
