I wrote earlier about our Mid-term Break trip to the Chobe. Of all the things we enjoyed on that trip, the highlight was the evening boat trip on the Chobe River.
We arrived at our lodgings at around 2 PM. The boat trip started at 3PM. Perfect!
Our guide was a very bright young local, aptly named, Smarts.
Brenda, and I were the only two on the boat, which again was perfect.
After a few preliminaries, we launched and immediately saw a African Darter, a bird similar to a cormorant.
We hadn't gone far when we spotted a Nile Crocodile.
As we were maneuvering to take photos we spotted a pied kingfisher, then a woodland kingfisher. Before we got away from the bank, we saw, close at hand my favorite Batswana bird, the national bird of Namibia, the African Fish Eagle.
Just a little further down the bank and... a herd of elephants is coming down to the river for an evening drink.
In fact, we saw so many, and took so many pictures, that it is not to exciting to see elephants in the wild any more.
Which brings us to the observation.G^d so blesses us, so often, that it is easy to become jaded. What was a few hours earlier a tremendous thrill now is, "Hey, it's just another elephant".
L^rd let us NEVER become accustomed to YOUR Grace and MERCY.
