A few people have clothes washers here in the urban Gaborone. Nobody has a dryer, at least nobody we know. But, we didn't have a dryer in Sweden either.
There's lots to be said for solar clothes dryers:
As I posted earlier, the "spin" cycle is all manual and does work as well as the automatic machines do, but it doesn't matter because of the zero energy use.
Some things work fine the old fashioned way.

- The sun bleaches the whites (colored clothes too)
- The cost is low
- Works when power is off (happens here weekly)
- If hung carefully, ironing is reduced
- Maintenance is simple.
