I wrote a post about all the construction in UlaanBataar,
Mongolia. UB rivals UB when it comes to
construction. UB has a LOT of new
buildings and more going up all the time.
I don’t even KNOW what all is being built, but it is a lot. And, the quality looks quite good.
The original UB was established in the 60s, so some of the
buidlings, like our PE building, likely dates from then, making some of them as
old as 50 years. But UA has buildings in
use, like Moore Hall, that date from the 30s.
In front of the (modern) library is this statue. It represents the government’s appeal to the
people of Botswana (the Batswana) for each family to donate one cow to the
construction of the Uni. I met a fellow
last week that proudly explained that his dad had done just that. By participating in building the Uni, the
populace would have ownership. Good
idea, eh?
Ownership is quite different from custodianship, or simply
being a beneficiary. When we own
something, we have invested, it is part of us.
That seems to be a problem with Christianity for many of
us. We are renters not owners.
Christ bought it for us, and then GAVE it to us, as stewards. Let's take ownership, each of us, together.
