Cold in Southern Africa

We are experiencing a cool snap.  It's not too cold relative to our winters, or certainly not relative to Sweden, but is is cool.  The catch here is that there is no provision for even coolness.   There is no insulation, and there are a lot of air leaks, and there is no heating system in the flat.

We cleverly bought three small electric space heaters, but we lost power twice yesterday.  I mentioned earlier, the local folks don't care much for cold.  They bundle up when it gets below about 75 F.

The cooler temps along with the dryness is giving my skin a painful, itchy time.  It's just part of the seasonal change though.

C.S. Lewis talked about the Church Calendar, and how a feast was followed by a fast, and how each one was different, but each repeated every year.  That provides us a rhythm that is neither too fast nor too slow.

Being in the Southern Hemisphere has us a bit out of rhythm.  July is the coldest month we are told.  Go figure.  July is beach time in USA, certainly NOT a time to break out the space heaters.

But we didn't come here to replicate Alabama.  It is kinda neat to experience a cold June, and it will be to bundle up in July.

We need both rhythm and continuity and we need change.  Christian Comedian, Mark Lowery, says Scripture is always saying, "It came to pass... It didn't come to stay it came to pass."

This too shall pass.  We are not permanent.  Nothing is permanent.  Everything will pass.  The cold is here, but it will give way to the heat of December.

I have mentioned the temporal nature of life before in these posts, but we need to be reminded over  and over.  At least i need the reminder.

This too shall pass.
