Table Mountain

Everyone has told us that Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  They were right.  This is one impressive city.  One of the beauty marks of the city is the mountains that not just surround it, but decorate its center too.

Table Mountain with its distinctively flat top is the best known, and its name marks lots of places around the Cape.  Lion Head looks somewhat as you might expect, except it could have also been called “Baboon head”.  There are plenty more, all probably with great names.

Our original plan was to take a cable car all the way to the top.  Apprently the view is terrific.  unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, we got there a few mintues after the alst cable car for the day.  We were already there, and sunset was coming, so we stopped far up on the mountain at the cable car lower station.

The lights coming on in the central business district (well known as the CBD) of Cape Town blow us.  The sunset is behind the confluence of Lions head and Table mountain, so we really can't see that, but the beauty is all around, in all directions.
That little bump at the top is the top of the cable car cable.
There are a lot of Christians in Cape Town, and several seminaries.  But, it seems more like Europe than Botswana with regard to being "post-Christian".

Looking down on the city brings to mind Jesus looking down on Jerusalem.

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God's messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn't let me."  Lk 13:34.

How about our city?  Maybe we should think the same about it.
