Social Media Not all Bad

I understand many of the criticisms of social media.  People do get addicted.  Sometimes they are used for more evil than good.  But they have many positive attributes too.

This is the second spring that Brenda and I have been outside the USA.  We check Facebook most days.  It is a way of staying connected with our friends back home, and in fact, friends around the world.  By my best reckoning we have FB friends in:

  • Japan
  • Costa Rica
  • Venezuela
  • Mexico
  • Mongolia
  • Sweden
  • England
  • Iran
  • Botswana
  • Philippines
  • Australia
  • Tanzania
  • Haiti
  • Jordan
  • Egypt
  • Cyprus
  • and Arkansas.

FB gives us a means for keeping up with folks, that we wouldn't by mere emails.  Plus FB lets us post picts, and see picts from around the World.  And this is relationship building.  Clearly we don't keep up with everybody, at least not well, but I still chat with students from 3-4 or more years back.

As Dr Wes says, relationships are important.  All tools can be used well or misused.  Almost every tool can be used for G^ds glory and for His service.

Just being able to say "Happy Birthday" is a nice benefit.

Thank you L^rd for FaceBook, as funny as that sounds.

  1. Obviously we are not in another country, although sometimes it feels like it, but I view FB the same way. :0)
