Beauty on the Hoof

In a few more days, you can read about the ugliest antelope, the hartebeest.  Now let's enjoy the beauty of the oryx, or gemsbok.  As ugly as the hartebeest, the gemsbok is sleek, colorful, and handsome with long straight horns.

These oryx have almost a regal air.  They seem to know they are handsome.

G^d has gifted them, or perhaps cursed them, with beauty.  Because they are so handsome, they are a popular trophy for hunters.  I wrote earlier about the blessing of being ugly, well the converse is true also.  Being beautiful has its own hazards.

Which should bring us to think about contentment.  G^d created us as HE wished.  Who are we to second-guess the G^d who made the stars, the hartebeest, and the gemsbok.

Gen 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
Then in Gen 1:27, "God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."

If we are created in G^d's own image, then what exactly is our complaint?
