The 6+ Seasons

Last night we were eating dinner with the head of Navigators, David Odhuno, and his wife, Agiso.  Late in the conversation David mentioned a new concept, "Fly Season in Botswana."

Fly season!  Go figure.

Brenda and I, just that morning had mentioned the large number of very pesky flies in our apartment.  Brenda had swatted a couple and I tried spraying insecticide on an especially annoying one.  It turns out that real fly swatters are hard to come by in Gaborone.

We wondered aloud where the flies were originating.

Now we know.   it's fly Season.

We are nearing the end of the rainy season and locals are disappointed at the low rainfall.  Apparently in another few weeks there will be no more rain until next November.  Our umbrellas and poncho can be stored away I suppose.  And, no rain will make camping easier.

The seasons ought to remind us of G^d's Sovereignty.

"He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding..." Daniel 2:21

Genesis 8:22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
Acts 1:7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

Psalm 1:3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Psalm 104:19 He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.
So, so far we have Summer, Winter, Spring, Fall, Rainy and Fly seasons.  What else is there?
